Propaganda use of images and Inspirational books

Aug 02, 2022 - Davide Degano

My project Romanzo Meticcio wants to investigate how visuals have shaped Italian modern culture. Images were used by the fascist regime as a tool to justify the new policies based on racial segregation. Mussolini introduced the idea of the white race in a Meditteranean country creating a strong identity crisis. The Italian case is interesting precisely because of the subordinate position that Italy covered to other European powers and suffered a racialization of its emigrants as confirmed by Risorgimento texts. Mixed marriages were prohibited. Images became performative acts of exclusion. Techniques that are still used in modern days by the most extremist representative of the right party.
I want to also share some books that helped me in my research process, in particular David Forgacs studies.
