Artist Blog

Every week an artist whose single image was published by Der Greif is given a platform in which to blog about contemporary photography.

Sacha Vega and Khairullah Rahim

Aug 05, 2020 - Gabriel Sacco

I virtually met Khai and Sacha recently. They both are artists working with lenses, sculpture, performance and installation. And so, I'm excited to curate these images in conversation with each other. Here's a little bit about the artists.

“Intimate Apparitions” by Khai (Singapore) comprises commonplace objects that have been reconfigured into lesser familiar forms. In the installation and photographs from this series, he considers how spaces are imbued with powerful symbolic connotations when occupied and utilised by certain minority or non-mainstream communities. The work was created in collaboration with Taufiq Rahman for Singapore Biennale 2019.

Sacha (Brooklyn, NY) makes work at the intersection of installation, photography, and writing. The work discusses a body's movement through space while curiously problematizing the notion of a fixed or natural perspective. The pictures are part of an ongoing series titled "Can you repeat the question".
