B.Bellabas - Parallel Chronicles

Jan 21, 2015

Everything we know comes from what we see and what happens to us. The temporal acceleration which we are living changes our relationship with time and space. That exponential rate develops an uninterrupted transformation of our environment, strengthening our doubt with reality. In many ways, DNA recombination induced by that inertia mesmerizes us via these new shapes that appear constantly. We can no longer cling to our physical experience of the world. We are living in a reality that we already have run through and that is dissolving under the weight of the virtual world. The future of humanity is as uncertain as the systems that govern it. As such, we have no future and the Apocalypse that awaits us is only waiting for a power outage to occur. "Parallel chronic" is a scenario that confronts many view points about this state of the world. What emerges from it is an investigation of this world, which takes sometimes the appearance of a science fiction story.
By using different codes from the image and their levels of language, an endless adventure materialises. Feelings of oscillation and uncertainty are reinforced by various ressources that confront each other. From mutants to simple recombined contemplations, our usual relationship with shapes is projected in parallel space which extends between two extremes. From fiction to the document. »Parallel Chronicles« wears out of this state to speculate on the scenario of a reality to the sometimes disturbing aspects. They question and try to inject a certain poetry in this technological state in which we are living. This is the engine of the renewal of the wonderful world of tomorrow. »I think we’re living in some other world than what we see, and I think for a while I knew exactly what that other world is.« - Philip K. Dick

Constance Nouvel

Jan 26, 2015 - B. Bellabas

href="http://dergreif-online.de/www/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Persistant_Panorama_Constance_Nouvel.png">Persistant - Panorama_Constance Nouvel How should we think about photography? It is really complicated to respond to this question today, especially because of all those new (and already existing) aspects of the image. That's why, for this post, I chose to focus on an artist who discusses this issue. This question is just a starting point for Constance Nouvel's approach. The Paris based artist works like an analyst, in order to understand the images in all their dimensions. Her very interesting work oscillates between photography and sculpture. Here's an excellent extract of a text written by Noémie Monier to introduce you to the work of Constance Nouvel. "Constance Nouvel’s photographic objects are mysterious entities. Immobile, mute and steeped in absence, they seem to hold the precious secret of a reality preserved. Their apparent stasis is however deceptive and the titles of some of the works are suggestive of slight movement (Diffraction, Translation, Dépliement [Unfolding]), providing clues where the artist has herself thrown us off the scent. A far cry from current digital processing techniques, she uses traditional prints as materials in themselves. They become the building blocks of her works, receptacles of movement by means of which they are then transformed according to logical method" The website of the artist is really well documented. I invite you to discover the several forms and reflexions developed by her work. See you soon. www.constancenouvel.www

Image as Place

Jan 23, 2015 - B. Bellabas

Hi everybody, I'm really happy to have the opportunity to share my likes and my universe with you this week. This first post is an invitation to discover or rediscover different works and practices of the photography. That's why I'm inviting you to visit Michèle Chomette Gallery if you're coming by Paris between the 24th of January and the 21st of March. The exhibition is starting tomorrow at 4pm with a preview of different artists. Below is the description of the event. »Under the guise of an illusory classicism, each one plays with the language of photography, each one goes beyond the image of place to establish the image as place, yet not one among them is fooled by the tool that they use.« To get more informations, you could check this out : Event : facebook.com imageasplace.com
