Jana Lange - Geteilte Luft / Split Air

Jul 16, 2014

I took these photographs since the birth of my son, between 2009 and 2012. Giving birth to a child had not been deliberately planned. My whole life suddenly turned upside down and opened to me new perceptions of myself, my partner, my child, my everyday-life and my environment. Geteilte Luft / Split Air is about giving and participation, about experiencing new roles, new situations, about different shapes of myself and the world, about simply being there.

Artist Blog

The blog of Der Greif is written entirely by the artists who have been invited to doing an Artist-Feature. Every week, we have a different author.

Once upon a time

Jul 21, 2014 - Jana Lange

"Once upon a time" is an ongoing project. I`m trying to find out more about the origin of the relationship between human and animal. I started this series last year, when I went to a wolf science centre in Austria for 3 months. Aragorn, one of the wolves, is published in Der Greif – »A Process«.

Anima

Jul 19, 2014 - Jana Lange

Anima is my graduation project (2012) at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. It is a work about the being there, about being human and about being an animal. About differences and similarities. About ambivalence, about the animal in me, the human being as an animal.

In der Marmelade schwimmen Fische

Jul 18, 2014 - Jana Lange

Questions about the being there, about perceptions, about reality and fiction provide the basis for my artistic work. What is real and what is fictive? Where is the difference respectively where is the line? Altogether is there any line? Realities are created. They are created by societies and by every single person. What is reality for one person can be fiction for another. The same attributes can be considered as supernatural or godlike in the one society, while it is considered as mentally disordered in the other. People with "mental illness" fall out of line, out of the society created reality, while the society, falls out of mentally ill persons` reality. I live in my own reality and at the same time, I am part of the reality of someone else. I see and at the same time, i am seen by someone else. My camera helps me to find my reality, helps me to realize the important things for my reality. I try not to think, but to feel and then translate my feelings with my camera. So, the motif is not located in front of the camera, instead it is inside of me. The motif is me, the photograph is my reality. (more…)
