Jens Schwarz - Mleeta - Hezbollah theme park, South Lebanon

Jul 03, 2013

For its self-manifestation, Hezbollah has established a bizarre theme-park in South Lebanon close to the Israeli boarder. Foreigners enter this southern zone only with special permission by lebanese Ministry of Defence. On a rainy day in march 2011 I photographed the park’s durmast oak forest. To avoid humidity, the Hizbollah-fighter-dummies showcased in the forest are cautiously covered through plastic rain protections.

Artist Blog

The blog of Der Greif is written entirely by the artists who have been invited to doing an Artist-Feature. Every week, we have a different author.

Cairo disconnected

Jul 09, 2013 - Jens Schwarz

With the situation more and more escalating in Egypt during the last days, today I would like to post some portraits of people I had the chance to meet there only eight weeks ago. With the now degraded regime not having fulfilled the people’s demands, two years after the Arab Spring, a large portion of the people were increasingly suffering from a devided society and a blocked political system. Whatever the future will bring, it hopefully might take a turn for the better!

Cedar Evolution

Jul 03, 2013 - Jens Schwarz

Hello everyone, my name is Jens and I will be sharing some ideas and imagery with you for the next week.
I will start introducing myself by posting a set of pictures from a project that I’ve been working on for the last couple of years.
The ongoing project is called ›CedarEvolution‹ and is about Beirut’s social identity. Since 2008 I’ve been continuously traveling to Lebanon to further my project. In earlier stages some of the pictures have been exhibited and published but a final selection to be set together in a photobook is still work in progress.

The selection showcased here is a set intuitionally put together and some of the featured shots did not appear in earlier selections. It’s a reflection of what comes into my mind when approaching my work with a present sentiment towards subject matter and aesthetical transformations. And it’s about what I’m trying to open my eyes for: breaklines and contradictions…
