Gloria Oyarzabal


Spanish artist photographer with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (UCM-Complutense University Madrid,1998), she diversifies her professional activity between photography, cinema and teaching. Programmer and co-founder of the Independent Cinema "La Enana Marrón"(The Brown Dwarf), Madrid (1999-2009), dedicated to the diffusion of author, experimental and alternative cinema. Lived 3 years in Bamako, Mali (2009-2012) developing her interest in the construction of the Idea of Africa, History of colonization-decolonization, new tactics of colonialism and African feminisms. After her Master's degree in Creation & Development of Photographic Projects at Blankpaper School of Photography (2014-15) her work has been shown at PHE PhotoEspaña (Madrid,Sp), FORMAT (Derby,Uk), Organ Vida (Zagreb,Cr) ,Athens Photo (Gr), Lagos Photo Festival (Nig), Thessalonika Foto Museum (Gr), Bitume Festival Lecce (It), Encontros da Imagem Braga (Pt), Odessa Foto (Ukr), Kaunas Foto Festival (Lith), ARTPHOTOBCN (Barcelona,SP),...among others. 2017 she is selected for the artistic residency Ranchito Matadero Nigeria-South Africa where she develops her last project about African feminisms in Madrid and Lagos (Nigeria). That same year she wins the Landskrona Dummy Award, which allowed her to publish her first photobook "Picnos Tshombé". 2018 she wins Encontros da Imagem Discovery Award. 2019 2nd Honorable Mention at PHmuseum Awards and finalist at FOTOFESTIWAL (Lodz, Pl) that will soon take place. Thanks to a grant she received on 2018 from the Community of Madrid she’s finishing her second photobook. Even though her work is mainly on photography, she also works with video, multimedia installation and sculpture.
