Johannes Dreyer

Johannes Dreyer was born in 1961, the year after the Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa, and not far away from it in the industrial gaint (then) region of Vereeniging in the suburb of Peacehaven. The beautiful irony of this has been an atmosphere Johannes has travelled with all of his life. After school and two years of military service and a brief attempt at studying law, Johannes worked for government in Sebokeng until a witnessed petrol bomb attack came complete with an epiphany and decided to become a photographer. He completed his diploma at the Vaal Tech in 1990 and has worked as a photographer since covering fashion, portraiture and documentaries. He is currently working on a collection of South African Landscapes. The work investigates the rarely considered nuance that separates the ordinary from the banal.
