Margaret Murphy


Margaret Murphy (b. 1990, Washington, DC) is a photo-based artist residing in Los Angeles, CA. Murphy’s art primarily focuses on social media, internet culture, and feminine identity and sexuality. Her work frequently uses lighting and digital manipulation to reference trends in popular culture and punctuated by her millennial existence, often delves into exploration of selfhood in the wake of consumer culture. Recent exhibitions of her work include Nude Geographies at Praxis Gallery in St. Paul, MN, Parts of Speech at Baxter Street Camera Club in New York City. Murphy’ has been featured with Strangefire Collective and Monopol Magazin and is a contributing writer for PhotoSpark Magazine. She has given guest lectures and critiques with University of Georgia and Temple University Japan. She holds her MFA in photography from the University of Hartford where she was granted a merit scholarship and her BFA in photography from Purchase College’s School of Art+Design.
