Q: How does Der Greif work?
A: Der Greif is not a portfolio-magazine.
It combines artworks of different photographers in order to create new photographic and textual compositions. Its main focus lies on the interplay between published works.
The artists’ trust in the editors makes Der Greif an exceptional holistic piece of art.

Q: What kind of artworks can I submit?
A: You can submit photographs via the submission process on www.picter.com and literary texts. Submission periods for literary texts are announced on the Der Greif landing page and social media, please stay tuned.

Q: How do I submit my work?
A: In order to submit to Der Greif, you have to create an account on www.picter.com for free. Picter provides professional photographers and organizations a platform to manage and submit photographs with easy and streamlined processes.

Q: Who can submit photographs?
A: Everyone can take part and submit his/her photographs. After a short registration process on www.picter.com you can login and start uploading.

Q: How many photographs can I submit?
A: For the print issue you can submit up to four photographs plus one photograph for the cover.

Q: Is there a specific theme?
A: No. Der Greif does not have a specific theme. Themes of Der Greif arise from submitted artworks.

Q: When is the submission deadline?
A: Submission deadline for Der Greif – Magazine #10 is March 26, 2017, 12:00 noon UTC+1

Q: Can I (as an exception) submit after the submission deadline?
A: No. The submission deadlines are be broadly communicated on the website of Der Greif, its partners’ websites, social media channels as well as newsletters. Works that are submitted via e-mail after the deadline will not be considered.

Q: How much is the registration and submission fee?
A: Registering is for free. For submitting Der Greif charges a 5 Euros non-compulsory free.

Q: Can I submit photographs that have previously been published elsewhere?
A: Yes, but it’s up to you to clarify if is at odds with the other publication(s).

Q: Can I also submit literary texts?
A: Der Greif has collaborates with different text editors who select literary artworks on their own but also ask for submissions. Please stay tuned, information about literary submission opportunities will be broadly communicated on this webiste and social media.

Q: Who is your text editor?
A: Since Der Greif – Magazine #7 our literary curator is Andreas Bühlhoff.

Q: Can I send you invitations to view my works and/or portfolios?
A: The editors are always keen on discovering something new. So the answer is yes. But it is important to keep in mind that viewing portfolios is just for personal interest and will not have any influence on the selection process and/or work on the magazine.

Q: What happens if one or more of my photographs get selected?
A: In any case – either acceptance or denial – you will receive a notification. If one or more of your photographs will be selected for a regular Magazine of Der Greif you will be sent a free issue. Published photographs are always among the first to receive a free copy in order to guarantee a low numbering of the copy. In case one or more of your photographs get selected for a special publication as books etc., special agreements will be effective. These agreements are always written in the Conditions of Participation.

 

Artist-Feature

Q: How does the Artist-Feature work?
A: Selected artists who have been published in print publications of Der Greif are invited by the editors to present his/her works online in so called Artist-Features. In these Artist-Features published photographs will be brought back into their original contexts. Furthermore, featured artists will get the chance to blog and share his/her motivations, inspirations etc.

Q: Can I apply for an Artist-Feature?
A: No. Applications will not be considered. Only persons who are invited personally by the editors can take part.

 

Guest-Room

Q: How does Guest-Room work?
A: Every other month, Der Greif invites different personalities in the field of international photography (curators, gallerists, photographers) to take part at Guest -Room. There is a separate call for entries for every single Guest-Curator, open for everyone. Submitted photographs are – not as usually by the editors of Der Greif – selected and curated by the respective Guest-Curators. The selected images are then published on the website of Der Greif, where they’re shown in new contexts and commented.

Q: What kind of artworks can I submit?
A: You can submit photographs of any kind via the submission process on www.picter.com.

Copyright and personal data

Q: What about the Copyright?
A: For detailed information please read the Conditions of Participation. Briefly, by submitting photographs to Der Greif the copyright will never be affected. By accepting the Conditions of Participation the editors of Der Greif get the permission to publish submitted photographs in for the respective objective within new contexts.

Q: How does Der Greif deal with inquiries by thirds?
A: In case of inquiries by thirds about further publications Der Greif will never decide without a explicit consultation with the copyright owner. The editors will contact the respective person and discuss all necessary details. A publication through third parties will only be legitimated with explicit permission by the copyright owner.

Q: Will you modify submitted photographs?
A: Submitted photographs will not be modified. In case of submissions for as cover image the editors might crop he image in order to guarantee a constant appearance of all covers.

Q: What happens to my personal data?
A: Please take a look at Picter’s privacy policy.

Q: How can I delete my personal data?
A: You can delete your user account at any time on your own in your account on Picter. By deleting your an account all of personal data gets deleted.
IMPORTANT: If you delete your account after the submission deadline, that is during the ongoing curation process of the relevant publication, the actual deletion of all relevant data will be executed only after the finalization of the curation.
If one or more of your submitted photographs get published, you agree that the editors of Der Greif are allowed to keep your name and contact information regardless of a deletion of your account. This is necessary, because you are and remain responsible for your submitted photographs even after the deletion of your account. The editors of Der Greif need to preserve the possibility to get in contact with you.

Q: Does Der Greif offer internships and jobs?
A: Vacancies for jobs and internships are announced on the website of Der Greif.
